The AI Pioneer Programme is a 20-week journey from The Gen AI Academy that takes people from their first real use of AI through to becoming the mentor who brings the rest of their organisation with them. It’s delivered by six specialists across four certified stages: human skills and critical thinking, governance and ethics, building with AI (agents and vibe coding), and teaching others to lead change.
The AI Pioneer Programme is built for organisations that have already rolled out AI tools and training, but still see adoption stall, the classic gap between “everyone’s had the training” and “hardly anyone’s actually changed how they work.” It’s designed for organisations who recognise that gap in their own business and want to close it by growing a group of internal mentors and peer to peer learning, rather than running another round of AI training.
Most employees who use AI well today learned it informally from colleagues, not from formal training, research from YouGov and The Access Group found that fewer than one in five AI users have taken any formal AI training, while 30% are learning through informal tip-sharing with colleagues instead. So peer learning is already how skills spread in most workplaces, AI is no different. Each of the four stages ends with its own certificate, culminating in the flagship Certified AI Pioneer Certificate & Award. Participants also present what they’ve built to their peers and leadership at a live Awards Ceremony, proof of real impact, not just a certificate.
The Awards Ceremony is the Programme’s closing event, where each participant presents what they’ve actually built and changed in their own organisation to their peers and leadership, proof of impact, not just a certificate. It’s a virtual, open showcase rather than a competitive judging format: there are no award categories, just each person or team sharing their results and what they’d tell someone starting the journey behind them. Participants are encouraged to invite their own leadership team to attend, giving sponsors and managers a first-hand look at the return on their investment before the flagship Certified AI Pioneer award is presented.
Stand alone AI training teaches people to use AI in a specific way with specific skills and outcomes. The AI Pioneer Programme goes further; it teaches people how to spread that skill to others, through mentoring, peer-learning structures, building playbooks others in the organisation can follow. It’s the difference between one confident AI user and a whole team that’s improved.
The AI Adoption Programme diagnoses and fixes stalled AI adoption across an entire organisation; the AI Pioneer Programme trains individual people to become the mentors who drive that adoption themselves. The Adoption Programme starts with an audit of your organisation’s data, tools and training gaps, then builds a tailored rollout plan with leadership activation and a review months later, it’s a consulting engagement for the business as a whole. The Pioneer Programme is a fixed, certified curriculum for a cohort of people, teaching them AI fluency, governance, building with AI, and how to teach and lead others, it’s a training journey for individuals. In practice, many organisations use both: the Adoption Programme to diagnose where the gaps are, and the Pioneer Programme to grow the people who close them.
It’s sold and delivered as a single cohort from start to finish, but built and certified in four distinct stages. Between stages, participants take a practice period to apply their learning, closing with an open “AI Surgery Session”, a live Q&A to troubleshoot real questions before the next stage begins.
The Programme runs for 21 weeks, delivered as one live weekly session per stage cohort, with built-in practice periods between each of the four stages so participants can apply what they’ve learned before moving on.
